More about Al Jassasiya Rock Art Site
Discovered in 1957 and systematically studied in 1974, Al Jassasiya features nearly 900 unique carvings, including cup marks arranged in rosettes, rows, and stars, as well as figurative depictions of boats, animals, and mysterious symbols. These designs are unlike any others found in the Gulf region, making the site a rare and remarkable cultural treasure.
Some believe the cup marks were used for traditional board games like Mancala, known locally as Al Haloosa or Al Huwaila. While the carvings may date back to the Neolithic period, recent evidence suggests they were created within the last 250 years—adding layers of intrigue to their origin.
