About Tasweer Talks Inaugural Guest Mashael Al Hejazi.
Mashael Al Hejazi is a Qatari artist and photographer who discovered her passion for art and photography at an early age. She is dedicated to developing her personal style and finding authenticity in the digital world. She is constantly experimenting and exploring ways to reflect her love for photography, painting, and colors, and her passion for the environment and sustainability.
During her artist residency at Fire Station in Doha in 2019-2020, Al Hejazi was commissioned to hold a solo exhibition titled: My Mother Lulwah's House, at Barahat Al Jufairi Majlis. She has been working with local photographers on projects to preserve the memories of Doha.
Her project Tawtheeq focuses on the people and architecture of old Doha, capturing the rapidly changing daily life in the city.
Al Hejazi uses research to employ alternative photographic processes, such as 19th century printing techniques, Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate printing.
After the talk, the event will be followed by the long awaited Tasweer 2024 Project and Single Image Awards Winners Announcement.
About the Tasweer Awards and 2024 Announcement 2024.
The Tasweer Project Award is a grant award of 30,000 QAR per awardee to support the initiation, further development or completion of a photographic project by a photographer resident in Western Asia and North Africa. Awardees will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work and participate in the public and online programme of events as part of the Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar.
The Tasweer Single Image Award is an annual award open to photographers of all ages and degrees of experience, resident in Western Asia and North Africa, to submit a single photographic image that best represents their experience and personal narrative. Awardees will have the opportunity to have their single images presented in an online exhibition, receive a cash prize, and participate in Tasweer photo festival Qatar’s online and public programme.
The Tasweer 2024 Project and Single image Awards Open Call was launched on the 13.03.24 and Closed on the 05.05.24, receiving a staggering 762 submissions for the Project Award and 2386 submissions for the Single Image award. Following in-depth deliberations from our esteemed jurors, we are excited and look forward to announcing the 2024 Award Winners.
