Join us for a special curatorial tour led by Tasweer’s Director, Khalifa Al Obaidly, offering insight into two powerful exhibitions. Al Mihrab presents Khalid Al-Musallamany’s photographic reflections on mosque architecture and spirituality. After the Game explores the cultural resonance of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through photography and film. The tour concludes with Garangao 2025, an exhibition centred on belonging, memory, and intergenerational identity.

ABOUT THE CURATOR - KHALIFA AL OBAIDLY

Qatari photographer Khalifa Al Obaidly originally studied marine biology at the University of Qatar and MBA at HEC Paris, Underwater photography was one of his earliest formative experiences with the medium.Since 2002 Al Obaidly has concentrated on Qatari tradition and culture through the twin themes of Desert and Sea, seeking to convey through his photography the importance of the traditional wooden boats, called Dhows, as reflections of Qatari history and bearers of the spirits of Qatari culture and the soul of the pearl divers. In addition to his own photography work, Al Obaidly has worked at a number

of science and art museums, including the Aquarium at the Qatar National Museum, working on a project to construct a museum of photography and build a collection of work and serving as an assistant director at the Islamic Art Museum (project) through the Qatari National Council for Culture, Art and Heritage.

Al Obaidly is also involved with many Qatari heritage programs and initiatives, as well as leading the Msheireb Art Centre an old girls’ school in heart of Doha has converted to Art center and established “Found Objects Project” (Echo Memory or Sadda AL Thekraiat) which seeks to create art from found objects for Heart of Doha Project. As he worked on the four Museums of Msheireb, Jalmod House, Radwani House, Mohammed Bin Jassem House and The Company House.

Khalifa leaded Firestation (Artist in Resident program) for seven years and developed the artist in resident program with many other programs to support. The local artist and connect them to international art seen. Director of Photo Festival is the new department Al Obaidly creating under QM to celebrate the young artists in the region and support their voice and thoughts in the photography and Art field in WANA region.

ABOUT THE TOUR

Tasweer’s Director and Curator of the Al Mihrab and After the Game exhibitions, Khalifa Al Obaidly, will lead a special curatorial tour offering insight into the exhibitions' themes and artistic perspectives.

In Al Mihrab, photographer Khalid Al-Musallamany presents a visual exploration of mosques, reflecting their architectural and spiritual essence.

After the Game features photography and short films responding to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, highlighting the emotion, energy, and cultural moments that unfolded both on and off the pitch.

As part of the tour, participants will also visit Garangao 2025 — an exhibition exploring belonging, memory, and intergenerational identity.

ABOUT AL-MIHRAB

Artist Khalid Al-Musallamany presents a visual conversation about places of worship in Qatar, capturing them in both black and white and color, old and new. With his unique architectural perspective, he takes us through a selection of mosques, carefully choosing the best moments to document them and preserve them through his lens. This collection reflects the faith and peace felt by worshippers. It highlights the beauty of mosque design and architecture in Qatar, blending tradition with modern influences inspired by Islamic heritage. These mosques are built on religious practices and values that shape our connection to places of worship.

ABOUT AFTER THE GAME

As soon as the referee blows the whistle, the match begins — and with it, the crowd comes alive, shaping a global sporting moment. It’s a moment charged with energy and chants, anticipation and caution, joy and heartbreak — a rich blend of emotions shared between victory and defeat.

This exhibition highlights the engagement of photographers and filmmakers with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, showcasing diverse artistic perspectives that reflect each creator’s unique vision and emotional response to the unfolding events — both inside the stadium and beyond, among fans, around the clock, and across every corner of Qatar.

The exhibition also features a selection of short films about football, produced through the “Made in Qatar” program by the Doha Film Institute, which aims to discover and support passionate local filmmakers.

ABOUT GARANGAO 2025

Presented as part of the 3rd Edition of Tasweer: Qatar Photo Festival, Garangao 2025 is the result of an open call inviting photographers across Qatar and the wider region to share their reflections on memory, belonging, and resilience.

Drawing from a cherished cultural tradition, this special community exhibition celebrates the act of collective storytelling through photography. The selected images—spanning personal moments, intergenerational connections, and scenes of joy and endurance—offer a visual meditation on how identity is formed, preserved, and expressed.

In amplifying diverse voices and perspectives, Garangao 2025 situates local narratives within broader regional and global dialogues, inviting us to witness the many ways photography continues to shape our understanding of who we are, where we come from, and how we carry forward.
